Burgangchu Hydropower Project

The Burgangchu Hydro power Project is a run-of-the-river scheme with an installed capacity of 54 MW. Located in Buli, Zhemgang, the project is being executed under an item-rate contract, with a total contract value of BTN 992,346,516.46.

In addition to the main scope, the project entails supplementary works, including the construction of a 2 km road and a bridge abutment, incurring an additional cost of BTN 28,525,946.83. The project is being undertaken by Druk Hydro Energy Umited (DHyE), with funding provided by Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd. (DGPCL), demonstrating strong collaboration between major Bhutanese energy entities.

The project officially commenced on June 8, 2022, with an expected completion date of December 7, 2024. As of August 2024, 83% of the civil works have been completed. Once operational, the Burgangchu Hydropower Project is anticipated to significantly enhance Bhutan’s renewable energy output, supporting the country’s strategic priorities in hydropower development.
